Custom Single-Processor Clamshells and Cases
Blue Ridge Thermoforming thermoforms custom single-CPU clamshells and cases that hold one processor with foam-free retention for retail and resale.
Request a QuoteA CPU clamshell is the one-part pack: a single CPU case that presents a processor for resale, kitting, or a return. Bulk trays still carry the lot. The clamshell carries the unit a customer opens.
Retention is thermoformed into the shell, so the pack does not rely on a foam insert. The cavity follows the package outline, and the hinge or two-piece closure keeps the processor seated.
A case built around one processor
Foam-free retention
The formed pocket and lid capture the processor. That CPU protective case stays a single material system, which simplifies recycling and removes a loose insert from the pack.
Retail and resale presentation
Clear static-dissipative shells show the part on a shelf or in a graded listing. Black shells suit a closed protective pack. Either is a CPU plastic case tooled to your package.
Server and desktop packages
The same clamshell approach covers a desktop part or a larger server processor. Cavity depth follows the sample, including tall heatspreaders.
Paired with bulk trays
Use a tray for the lot and a clamshell when a unit is sold or returned. Both are quoted from the same drawing or sample.
Static-control materials
- Clear or black static-dissipative options are available when a lot needs visual inspection, alongside conductive materials for the most sensitive parts.
- Static-dissipative and conductive shells for processor handling.
- ESD-grade PET and rPET when clarity and recyclability both matter.
- Durable hinges and snap fits for repeated open-and-close on the bench.

How a CPU case project runs
- Send one processor or a package drawing
- We form the cavity, lid, and closure and fit-check the sample
- Choose clear or black static-dissipative material
- Production runs at low or high volume under ISO 9001:2015 quality processes, made in Greenville, SC.
When a clamshell fits better than a tray
Graded processors sold one at a time need a pack the buyer can see and a cavity that does not let the part rattle. A single CPU case does that without a multi-pocket tray.
Lines that still move processors in bulk should start with custom CPU trays or server CPU trays, then add clamshells for the shippable unit. Clamshell packaging covers the broader retail format if the part is not a processor.
Blue Ridge Thermoforming supplies the packaging. We do not grade or resell the processors.
CPU Clamshell FAQs
Do CPU clamshells use a foam insert?
No. Retention is thermoformed into the clamshell so the processor is held without a separate foam piece.
Can one case fit more than one processor generation?
We tool the cavity to the package you send. Similar footprints can share a case. Different outlines get their own tool.
What are your minimums and lead times?
Depends on part and volume. Send your counts and we'll quote it.
Quote a single-CPU clamshell
Send a processor and tell us if the pack is for retail or bench use. We will quote a clamshell built for it.
