Pocket length follows the module you send. A DDR5 SODIMM tray accounts for on-module components and the edge connector the same way a server DIMM tray does.

Where SODIMM trays sit in the line

A laptop RAM tray also keeps a repair depot from mixing SODIMMs with full-size server modules. If both are in the same building, keep the tools separate so a short module cannot sit loose in a DIMM pocket.
