Custom Matrix Trays for IC and Component Handling
Blue Ridge Thermoforming thermoforms custom matrix trays for ICs and small components, including trays that follow a JEDEC outline when your process needs that compatibility.
Request a QuoteSmall components want a matrix: a regular grid, a flat seating plane, and a pocket that a picker can trust. An IC tray or chip tray from Blue Ridge Thermoforming is tooled to your part and your count.
When a handler or an existing process expects a JEDEC outline, we can build a JEDEC tray alternative that matches that outline. The pocket itself still follows your component. Send the outline you need to match and the part that sits in it.
A grid tooled to the component
Part-specific pockets
A component matrix tray uses pitch, depth, and orientation from your drawing or sample so each device sits the same way for manual or robotic pick.
JEDEC-outline compatibility
If your line needs interchange with JEDEC-outline carriers, we form the tray to that outline. Tell us the outline with the part data.
Counts and stacks
Pocket count follows the reel, tube, or lot you are replacing. Nest-and-stack and interlocking features keep a stack dense and aligned.
Lids when parts must stay seated
A lid or cover keeps lightweight devices in their pockets during a move between machines.
Static-control materials
- Static-dissipative, conductive, and anti-static materials for IC handling.
- Clear or black static-dissipative options are available when a lot needs visual inspection, alongside conductive materials for the most sensitive parts.
- ESD-grade PET and rPET and anti-static HIPS.
- Thin-gauge trays are reusable and durable for repeated handling, stacking, and shipment.

Component handling and automation
- Send the component drawing and any outline the handler expects
- We prototype the matrix and fit-check pick access
- Thin-gauge ESD trays cover larger, non-matrix components
- Production runs at low or high volume under ISO 9001:2015 quality processes, made in Greenville, SC.
Matrix trays beside custom component trays
A chip tray is the right tool when the part is small and the count is high. Larger odd parts belong on a custom ESD tray with a pocket that is not a uniform grid. Both are thin-gauge thermoforming.
Send the part, the matrix size, and whether the tray must match a JEDEC outline. We will quote it from Greenville, SC. The electronics trays hub links the rest of the component set, from CPUs to drives.
Include pick-and-place access in the drawing if a robot lifts the part. Pocket walls can stay low enough for a nozzle while still locating the device.
Matrix Tray FAQs
Can the tray match a JEDEC outline?
Yes. We can form a tray compatible with a JEDEC outline you specify, with pockets tooled to your component.
Are the pockets identical across the matrix?
Yes, unless you ask for a mixed layout. Pitch and depth stay consistent for pick-and-place.
What are your minimums and lead times?
Depends on part and volume. Send your counts and we'll quote it.
