Custom Hard Drive and SSD Trays

Blue Ridge Thermoforming builds custom hard drive shipping trays for 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch HDDs and SSDs, with or without caddies, in static-control materials.

A hard drive shipping tray has to hold a part that is heavier and thicker than a module. We form 2.5 inch SSD trays and 3.5 inch HDD trays to the drive you send, including drives that stay in a caddy and drives that do not.

SATA and SAS drives both fit this page. The pocket follows the outline, the connector side, and the caddy rails when the drive ships installed in a carrier.

Pockets for the drive you ship

2.5 inch and 3.5 inch

A 2.5 SSD tray can run at a high count. A 3.5 HDD tray uses a heavier-part pocket so the drive sits supported through the stack. Thin-gauge forming covers both.

With or without a caddy

An HDD with caddy tray leaves room for the carrier and its latch. A no-caddy pocket holds the bare drive. Tell us which version is in the lot. Mixed lots can use separate trays or a layout that keeps each version oriented.

SAS and SATA

SAS drive packaging and SATA drives share the tray program. Connector-end clearance is part of the cavity so the interface is not the contact point.

Bulk counts and lids

Hard drive packaging in bulk uses the count that matches your carton or tote, with lids and interlocking stacks so a heavy stack stays aligned.

Static-control materials

  • Static-dissipative and conductive materials for drive electronics.
  • Clear or black static-dissipative options are available when a lot needs visual inspection, alongside conductive materials for the most sensitive parts.
  • ESD-grade PET and rPET and anti-static HIPS.
  • Thin-gauge trays are reusable and durable for repeated handling, stacking, and shipment.

Drive pulls and bulk shipment

  • Separate pockets for caddy and no-caddy drives
  • Stack features sized for 3.5 inch weight
  • Single-drive packs on the hard drive clamshell page
  • M.2 lengths on the M.2 SSD tray page

Trays for decommissioned drives

Server and workstation teardowns produce both form factors, often with some drives still in caddies. A custom tray keeps that distinction visible and keeps drives from striking each other in a carton.

Send a sample drive, say whether the caddy stays on, and name the count. We will quote the tray. ITAD packaging describes how these trays sit in a pull-to-resale workflow. We supply the packaging. We do not wipe or resell drives.

Production runs at low or high volume under ISO 9001:2015 quality processes, made in Greenville, SC.

Hard Drive Tray FAQs

Can thin-gauge trays hold 3.5 inch drives?

Yes. Pockets and stacks are designed for 3.5 inch drive weight, with and without caddies.

Can one tray hold caddy and no-caddy drives?

Yes. We can separate them into two trays or design a layout that keeps each version oriented.

What are your minimums and lead times?

Depends on part and volume. Send your counts and we'll quote it.
