Custom Optical Transceiver Trays
Blue Ridge Thermoforming builds custom transceiver trays for SFP, QSFP, QSFP-DD, and OSFP optics, with pockets that clear pull tabs and protect the optical port.
Request a QuoteOptical transceivers are small, expensive, and easy to damage at the port and the pull tab. A transceiver tray pockets the body of the module and leaves a clear path for the tab and the connector end.
High-speed optics, including 400G and 800G modules in QSFP-DD and OSFP packages, use the same custom approach. The cavity follows the module you send, not a generic rectangle.
Pockets for the optic
SFP through OSFP
SFP and SFP+, QSFP and QSFP28, QSFP-DD, and OSFP. An SFP tray, a QSFP-DD tray, or an OSFP tray can be its own tool. Mixed lots can use a layout that keeps each type oriented.
Pull-tab clearance
The pocket leaves room for the pull tab so it is not folded under the module or caught on the next cavity.
Optical port protection
Cavity walls and optional lids keep the port end off the plastic. A single-module SFP clamshell does the same job for a unit pack.
Counts for spares and pulls
Set the count for a spare kit, a line-side tote, or a decommissioned switch lot. Lids and interlocking stacks keep the lot together.
Static-control materials
- Static-dissipative and conductive materials for optical modules.
- Clear or black static-dissipative options are available when a lot needs visual inspection, alongside conductive materials for the most sensitive parts.
- ESD-grade PET and rPET and anti-static HIPS.
- Thin-gauge trays are reusable and durable for repeated handling, stacking, and shipment.

Optics in the data center
- Trays for bulk spares and for modules pulled from switches
- Clamshells for a single high-value optic
- Lot sorting beside NICs on the PCIe card tray page
- Server-wide packaging on the server component page
Packaging for high-value optics
A 400G or 800G module costs enough that a loose bin is the wrong pack. Optics packaging from a custom tray keeps the port and the pull tab intact from the rack to the cage or the resale bench.
Send a sample transceiver, the count, and whether you need a lid or a single-module clamshell. We quote from that sample in Greenville, SC. Data center plastic parts covers the broader data-center work beyond these trays.
We supply the packaging. We do not inventory or resell optics. Pull-tab clearance is checked at the fit-check so a tab is not pinched when the lid closes or when trays stack. A single-module clamshell uses the same port protection when the optic ships alone.
Transceiver Tray FAQs
Can you tray QSFP-DD and OSFP modules?
Yes. Pockets are tooled to the module you send, including QSFP-DD and OSFP packages used for high-speed optics.
Do the pockets clear a pull tab?
Yes. Pull-tab clearance and optical-port protection are part of the cavity design.
What are your minimums and lead times?
Depends on part and volume. Send your counts and we'll quote it.
Quote a transceiver tray
Send a sample optic and your counts, and we will quote a transceiver tray built for it.
